At first glance, The Sniff Inn at Edition Dog Live might look like a bit of fun. And it is. Watching dogs stroll up to the “bar”, owners laughing over dog-safe refreshments, and friends gathering together creates exactly the kind of relaxed, welcoming atmosphere we want at the event. But behind the playful concept is something much more important: wellbeing.
Everything at Edition Dog Live is designed around promoting dog health, welfare and responsible ownership. Sometimes that comes through expert talks, live demonstrations and practical workshops. Sometimes it comes through enrichment activities, scent work and training experiences. And sometimes, surprisingly, it comes through a dog pub.
Hydration is one of the most overlooked parts of canine health. Most owners know dogs need access to water, but fewer people think about hydration as an active part of wellbeing. Water intake can tell us a lot about a dog. Changes in drinking habits can sometimes be one of the earliest indicators that something is not quite right, whether that is stress, overheating, illness, pain or underlying health conditions.
Events can also be exciting, stimulating and physically tiring for dogs. New environments, activity, movement and social interaction all increase the need for regular hydration. Having visible, welcoming hydration points around an event is not just practical — it helps normalise the idea that owners should be consciously thinking about their dog’s fluid intake throughout the day.
The Sniff Inn was created to encourage exactly that. It gives dogs and owners a place to pause, rest, hydrate and regulate. In many ways, it reflects how we believe dog events should feel overall: thoughtful, relaxed and centred around the dog’s experience rather than simply keeping them occupied.
There is also something surprisingly social about water. Dogs naturally gather around calm, safe spaces, and owners do too. Conversations start. People compare breeds, training stories and life experiences. Dogs decompress. Owners slow down. In a busy event environment, that matters.
Of course, we would be lying if we said we did not also enjoy the fun side of it. Seeing dogs “ordering” at the bar, posing for photos and becoming part of the atmosphere has become one of the most talked-about parts of Edition Dog Live. It captures the personality of the event perfectly: educational without being intimidating, informative without losing its sense of humour.
The Sniff Inn may raise a smile, but like everything at Edition Dog Live, it exists for a reason. Behind the novelty is a simple message that deserves more attention in the dog world: healthy dogs need opportunities to rest, regulate and hydrate too.
You can discover The Sniff Inn and much more at Edition Dog Live on 17–18 October 2026 at NAEC Stoneleigh.
